St Lucia Weather in October

By Kirk Elliott – BadAss St Lucia Photographer Sharing My Saint Lucia with the World…

This St Lucia Weather in October overview is based on 12 years of data from the Saint Lucia Meteorological Office (2005 – 2016) as well as my personal observation of St Lucia’s weather. As a photographer I am acutely aware of the weather since 95% of my photography is produced outdoors. I have created a weather review like this for each month of the year and I hope that you find it an invaluable guide as you plan your Saint Lucia vacation and you ask that burning question: “What will the weather in St Lucia be like when I get down there???”

St Lucia Weather in October

St Lucia weather in October is important to you if you are traveling to St Lucia in this month. With very few cruise ships calling in to Port Castries and also weak hotel occupancy at this time there are lots of accommodations deals to be had. So although this is peak hurricane time and there can be plenty of rain about, the great accommodation deals make this an attractive travel time.
October in St Lucia comes with the usual island warmth and sunshine, however you can expect rain. Most days it will be a few minutes here, a half hour there and even some days where it rains for most of the day and the sun never makes it through the clouds. Because of all the rains the island can be more humid than other times of the year. However due to the cooling effects of the northeasterly Trade Winds that blow across the island the humidity is never the totally oppressive and muggy type. So expect to have a great time during your October visit.

St Lucia weather in September actually holds the record for average highest high temperature over the review period. For the same October period the average low temperature was 25.1°C / 77.2°F. Temperatures at higher elevations are generally lower, especially at night, however this is not likely to impact you much unless you are staying at a vacation rental property that is somewhere inland.

St Lucia October Sunshine

October enjoyed an average of 8.1 hours of daily bright sunshine for the period that was reviewed. This is the same amount of bright sunshine that occurred for St Lucia weather in September, which is indicative of a near identical weather pattern for both months. It must be noted that hours of bright sunshine is not the same as length of day, but rather speaks to the period when there is no cloud cover that blocks out the sun.

Hours of bright sunshine is important when you consider for instance being outdoors and what sun block factor sun screen to use.

St Lucia Sunrise and Sunset in October … 2016 Figures

On October 1st sunrise was at 5:54 AM and set at 5:52 PM for a total of 11:58 hours in between. By October 31st the sun was rising at 5:59 AM and setting at 5:35 PM for a total of 11:36 hours in between. There is a consistent pattern across the months for the sun to rise at roughly the same time throughout the month while setting at a consistently earlier time and in so doing shortening the day as the month progresses.

So if your vacation will extend beyond October you can expect a continuation of this trend when thinking about St Lucia weather in November.

Over the period 2005 – 2016 October was the month with the highest average rainfall which stood at 211 mm/8.3 inches. By October we are well into the rainy season and you can expect some rain almost every day of your stay. However this is no cause for alarm as the rain hardly ever falls the entire day and there will still be lots of days of beautiful sunshine as you hardly ever get more than two back to back days of rain. And even on those days when it does life still goes on. Resorts tend to have rainy weather in door entertainment. Most daytime excursions still go out, though umbrellas and rain ponchos will be in order.
